Update 08/12/2022: SoFi has now increased its APY to 2%

SoFi just announced that it is increasing its APY from current 1.5% to 1.8% for its direct deposit members. It sent out an email to its members saying:

We increased the annual percentage yield (APY) for members with direct deposit from 1.50% to 1.80%.

We raised the rate on SoFi Checking and Savings so you can earn even more toward your goals.”

This is an welcome change, with the current high inflation. SoFi’s APY of 1.8% is 60x the national average rate for a checking account! Members without direct deposit will earn 1.00% APY, which is 33x the national average. Fed is expected to increase the rate by up to 100 basis points this week and SoFi had proactively increased its rate. With this increase, SoFi has the highest APY offerings of any checking account (without complicated requirements). It is also better than many savings accounts and certificate of deposits. SoFi had also recently removed the maximum amount eligible for higher APY.
